Last monday 17 In May, a demonstration day on Morphological Assessment and Semen Assessment in Male sheep was held at the Pajarete de Prado del Rey farm in collaboration with IFAPA DE Hinojosa del Duque, Córdoba.
The objective was to demonstrate to the veterinarians of the Cooperative, of the ADSG and a group of farmers how the valuation of the animals was carried out. To do this, he traveled to farm D. Francisco Querino, of the IFAPA of Hinojosa del Duque and the sexual evaluation and the collection of semen with an electroejaculator were carried out and subsequently the quality of the semen was evaluated.
The aim of this technique is to check if the stallions on the farm are truly suitable for breeding.. In sheep farms analyzed so far by IFAPA, approximately between a 7-20 % of males were infertile or subfertile, this problem being an important cause of loss of efficiency in the sheep sector.
This technique can be applied to sheep stallions, goats and with the right tools for their size, also to the bovine.
