2014 END WITH THE LOWEST FIGURE OF FOREST FIRES IN 10 YEARS

THE TOTAL FIRE FIGURE WAS 9754, IN FRONT OF THE 10797 OF 2013
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has published on its website the provisional statistics of forest fires of the 1 from january to 31 from December to 2014, (with still provisional data from 2013 Y 2014) reflecting that the number of forest fires that occurred in 2014 it was of 9.754, the lowest in the last ten years. Until this year, the lowest figure in the last decade was recorded in 2013, with 10.797 sinister.
Of these 9.754 sinister, 6.741 correspond to attempts (fires less than 1 hectare) Y 3.013 are from fires greater than 1 hectare. In 2013, the number of fires was 3.089 and that of nears 7.708. Also note that the average of the last ten years is 15.638 sinister.
Likewise, forest area affected by fires is the lowest in the last ten years. Specific, in 2014 the fire has affected 46.818 hectares, while the figure for the same period in 2013 it was of 61.737 hectares, and the average of the last decade of 117.034 he has. Up to now, the lowest figure of the last decade corresponded to the year 2008, when the affected area was 50.322 he has.
Of this 46.818 he has, 29.343 ha correspond to scrub surface and open forest; 11.300 has wooded surface and 6.175 has a surface of pastures and meadows. These amounts are significantly lower than the average for the last decade, what were of 63.840 he has, 39.932 there are 13.260 ha respectively.
Likewise, until the end of 2014 a total of 7 big fires (more of 500 hectares), while in this same period of 2013 they occurred 17 big fires. The average number of large fires in the last ten years has been 28.
For Minister Isabel García Tejerina, the fight against forest fires has been one of the main priorities of the Ministry since the beginning of the legislature. In 2015, the actions will have a budget of 79,3 millions of euros. The same way, García Tejerina has repeatedly stressed how public awareness is key in the fight against forest fires.
For the campaign 2014, the Ministry has had a total of 67 aerial means, one more than in 2013, after the acquisition of a new amphibious aircraft, to support the Autonomous Communities. From them, 22 they are own means (18 amphibious aircraft and 4 surveillance helicopters) Y 45 they are contracted media.
