ITACA SYSTEM: REGULATION OF THE IBERIAN PIG

IT IS A DATABASE VIA INTERNET THAT WILL SERVE FOR THE CONTROL OF THIS LIVESTOCK
Last 28 August Ministerial Order AAA / 1549/2014 was published, by which the agreements reached with the Interprofessional of the Iberian Pig are expanded (ASICI), an entity on horseback between ranchers and industrialists to "mediate" or bridge the two and to represent all of them before superior entities.
One of the consequences of this Order is the creation of a database called ITACA Web system.. This database aims to register all farmers, slaughterhouses and industrial. It is conceived as a control instrument to guarantee traceability and compliance with the Quality Standard of the Iberian Pig.
In the case of ranchers, all must be registered in the database, communicate the number of sows and boars they have and register all the piglets that are born. At the same time they have to order ear tags for these piglets from their usual suppliers but always through the system created. In this way, the piglets are born in the farms of mothers and then, go to the feedlot go, are controlled from birth.
In the case of feedlots, the obligation consists on the one hand in making batches of food 60 days before going to slaughterhouse. These are created from piglet batches that are duly accredited in the database.. The feedlot or the exploitation of bait field or montanera will create their fattening lots, having to inform ITACA when they start, and when they meet their time they can go to the slaughterhouse. These farms will also order their ear tags from their usual suppliers through ITACA and everything will be registered.
According to the Ministerial Order, farmers have the obligation to enter the necessary information into the system, a freely accessible web page where each user, using a personal password, you can enter the corresponding data. It can also be done by representation: the farmer authorizes a certain person or entity to send the data, so that Cooperatives or any manager can do this work .
DEADLINES AND DATES TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT (transitional period):
– A. The livestock, has until 31 March 2015 to register the user and declarations of: farms (REGAs), breeders (if REGA has them) and productions that have started fattening according to the conditions established in the Royal Decree 4/2014. From the moment of registration as a user it is mandatory to carry out all the planned communications.
– B. All animals born after 1 April 2015 they must be identified with the system birth tag.
– C. From the 1 July 2015, so that the carcass parts are identified with seals of the Quality Standard, they must come from lots that have registered their output for slaughter in ITACA.
– D. From the 1 September 2015, all animals that go to slaughter, they must be identified with a system feeding tag. They will not be identified with seals of the Quality Standard, pieces from lots that, from the date indicated, do not carry a system feed tag (closed cycle farms, ear tag).
– E. Farms incorporated into ITACA after these dates: they will not be able to make communications before the date of their incorporation. This, according to each case and each incorporation date, may prevent identification with Norma seals.
From 01 September 2015 all Iberian pigs that are going to slaughter must have traceability ITACA: birth tag and feed tag.
For all this, the Cooperative is putting the means to help our ranchers to solve this problem, helping you 2 shapes:
– Those ranchers who have a computer at home and someone who is capable of managing it, we will help you manage the system so that from your home you can meet all obligations.
– For those ranchers who do not have a computer at home, we will help them from the Cooperative to implement this new system.. For this, it will be necessary to formalize a representation agreement between the Cooperative and the rancher. Then they will supply all the information to the Cooperative and there it will be entered into the system.
